Subsidiarity
The principal of social organization that social and political issues should be dealt with at the most immediate or local level--that a central authority should perform only tasks that cannot be performed at a more local level. Subsidiarity is a legacy of EU frameworks that seek to safeguard the ability of the Member States to make decisions that can be better achieved at a local level, exercised as close to the citizen as possible.
