You are now able to apply for or renew a blue badge online. To check your eligibility and fill in an online application form visit the government blue badge website available from the 'Related Sites' section of this page. Your application will then be sent to Orkney Islands Council for a decision.

You can get business rates relief through the Small Business Bonus Scheme if the combined rateable value of all your business premises in Scotland is £35,000 or less. An application form is available from the related downloads section on the small business bonus scheme page which can accessed from the 'Related Links' section of this page.
If you wish to apply for council tax reduction (previously called council tax benefit) or housing benefit, please email the Benefits team or call them on 01856873535 extension 2116. You can also ask for help on how to complete the application forms. Home visits, if suitable, are also available on request.
To apply for a council property, you need to complete the standard housing application form. These are available from the council offices in Kirkwall or the Warehouse Buildings in Stromness. The development management team are available Monday to Thursday 09:00 to 10:00 and 16:00 to 17:00, to offer advice on planning applications and proposed developments to customers visiting or calling the council offices. Outside these hours and days, they are available by appointment only. Queries can also be sent by email to the Development Management team.

You can check that you are registered as an elector, find out about ways to vote during elections (such as by post or by appointing a proxy to vote on your behalf), or get further advice by emailing the local electoral registration office or by calling 01856876222.
