Controlled Activities Regulations - CAR

The Water Environment (Controlled Activities) (Scotland) Regulations 2011–commonly known as the Controlled Activity Regulations (CAR)–and further amendments apply regulatory controls over activities which may affect Scotland’s water environment (including rivers, lochs, estuaries, coastal waters and wetlands). The CAR license is issued by SEPA. Relevant leases that require a CAR license include aquaculture, agricultural or industrial outfalls, and public wastewater.
