Construct Boatbuilder Workbenches - essential equipment for the new storage/workspace in Stromness
Work benches are an essential tool in boat restoration as many activities require a flat surface at a comfortable height on which to work. The benches also provide a solid base for fixing the large wood working vice – another essential tool. Before the work benches were available, we have had to improvise with a pile of wooden pallets and no proper vice.
The general public will benefit in the long term because OHBS will be able to restore and maintain historic Orkney boats and maritime artefacts to a high standard. Some boats will be maintained in an on-the-water state and so can be taken out on the water and demonstrated to the public.
