Culture Fund: Friends of St Peter’s Kirk - 2023

Date: 30 March 2023

Oral History of St Peter’s and St Mary’s Kirk

Part one of the project

We hired Sheena Graham George as our researcher. She interviewed and recorded the transcripts from 16 local - people 8 from each Kirk.

Part two of the project

Two storytelling events were delivered by Marita Luck, a professional storyteller – one in St Peter’s on 26 Nov 2022 and the other at St Mary’s on 5 Feb 2023. There was an attendance of about 20 at St Peters and 25 at St Mary’s.

The long-term benefits for our groups and communities is that we have recorded the oral histories of many from the oldest generation in our communities. These are stories that would have been lost if we had not recorded them, and they will be used and shared through the future interpretation of our buildings.

These oral histories will be used in the future as a basis for the interpretation displays of our buildings and some for an audio walk in St Margaret’s Hope.
