Living well whatever your age – share your views on Facebook
05 February 2018

An online discussion next week will debate the question – is Orkney a good place to live as we get older?

The Facebook chat will ask for views and ideas on how people can enjoy lives that are as fulfilling as possible whatever their age.

“Our community is widely regarded as a wonderful place for children and young people to grow up in and for young adults to find work and raise families,” said Gail Anderson, chair of the Orkney Partnership’s Positive Ageing group, who will host the discussion on Thursday 15 February.

“But what about as we grow older? Are there particular challenges people face in later life? Do we as a community value our older citizens and the contribution they make? Is what’s needed in place for folk to live long, healthy and active lives?”

With Orkney’s older population increasing steadily, these are key considerations for a range of organisations that make up the Orkney Partnership.

“The Facebook chat is a great opportunity for people to tell us about what getting older in Orkney is like. We’re looking forward to hearing about what’s good and what can be improved – and ideas for living well, whatever your age,” Gail added.

“As a Partnership we seek effective ways to make a positive difference to people’s lives, by working together as organisations and with local communities across the county. This will help us to do that.”

The discussion will take place on the OIC Updates Facebook page between 18:30 and 19:30 on Thursday 15 February.
