Orkney Community Wind Farms has been shortlisted as a finalist in this year’s COSLA Excellence Awards.

Royal Mail and Skyports Drone Services have today announced the launch of the Orkney I-Port operation, a drone delivery project established in partnership with Orkney Islands Council Harbour Authority and Loganair.

Families, bairns and staff from the Glaitness School community will be celebrating the end of the first part of their journey to Net Zero with a “Walk to School Week”.

By Friday 24 March – the last day of the Walk to School Week - it is hoped that most families who are able will walk, cycle or share a lift to school with the ultimate aim of reducing CO2 emissions created by the school run by 80%.

Orkney Islands Council’s Marine Services and Transportation team have added two compact electric vehicles to their roads fleet. 

Partner agencies across Orkney – the Police, NHS Orkney and the Council - are appealing for folk to stay home today if at all possible.

The wintry conditions have left a number of vehicles stuck or having difficulty on various routes – they include Hobbister in Orphir, the Airport Road, Moss Road in Holm, Holm Branch and the Clay Loan, but there will be others. This, in turn poses a risk to the emergency services if called out – and it makes the job of the Council’s gritter crews more challenging.
