International Workers’ Memorial Day

Date: 26 April 2024

Sunday (28 April) is International Workers' Memorial Day and this year’s theme is #IWMD24/The Climate Crisis and Workers’ Health.

The focus will be on exploring the impacts of climate change, such as heat stress, air pollution and extreme weather events on occupational safety and health.

With the Saltire flag flying at half mast above the Council offices from Friday until Sunday, flowers were laid at a previously planted commemorative tree and Council Convener, Graham Bevan, and Sheona MacGregor, from the Union Unite, said a few words to mark the occasion.

Councillor Bevan said: “Today (Friday’s) gathering has allowed us to collectively pay tribute to the sacrifice made by workers across the world, to remember those who've sadly lost their lives because of their work, and to thank all those who continue to do vital work at great risk.”
