Folk on the private water register in Orkney are being encouraged to take part in a survey to help ensure a clean, secure supply is maintained into the future.

Environmental Technical Officer with the Council’s Environmental Health service, Nick Blowfield, said the online survey is being run by the James Hutton Institute on behalf of the Scottish Government.

“The idea behind the survey is to explore private water supply resilience and as part of that researchers are looking to engage with private water supply users and owners to find out the reasons why they may be vulnerable to water scarcity and poor water quality.

“The researchers want to hear folk’s views about their experiences of using a private water supply. The survey will take around 15 minutes to complete and can be saved part-way and returned to later if needed. Not every question has to be answered and people can withdraw at any point. Responses will be kept confidential, and consent will be required before starting the survey.”

The research is funded by Scottish Government. With your help to understand what might cause vulnerability to private water supplies, the researchers aim to help improve water security for PWS users across Scotland. More information on the project can be viewed on the project page.
