Date: 09 January 2024

Island Games arts opportunities

Orkney Islands Council is seeking a local Scrivener/Story Gatherer and a Sound Artist to deliver two exciting projects celebrating Orkney against the backdrop of the 2025 International Island Games.

Between them, the two roles will deliver a piece of sound art to feature in St Magnus Cathedral, and a short story booklet.

The project is being managed by Orkney Islands Council’s Arts Development service.

Gwenda Shearer is Chair of the Council’s Education, Leisure and Housing committee:

“This is about celebrating the wider culture of Orkney and spotlighting our incredible artists, writers, craftspeople and performing artists – with reference to our history, landscape, and creative future as we welcome the world to the International Island Games in 2025.”

The commissions are subject to external funding. Up to £6k is available for each role, with the Scrivener/Story Gatherer role anticipated to start in March/April 2024 and the Sound Artist from May 2024.

Applications close Monday 8 February. Find out more about the opportunities at www.orkney.gov.uk/artsopp or email emma.gee@orkney.gov.uk
