Community ideas sought for Finstown and St Margaret's Hope improvements

Date: 16 February 2023

St Margaret's Hope and Finstown are cracking places for locals and visitors alike - but are there any changes that could make them even better?

The Council has sent out a call out for community ideas for improvements to existing facilities or potential new amenities that would serve both residents and visitors, for example paths and trails, public conveniences or new signage.

Future funding of eligible projects that result from the ideas submitted could potentially come from VisitScotland’s Rural Tourism Infrastructure Fund (RTIF), which is also being used to develop projects in Dounby, Birsay, Stromness and Kirkwall.

Christie Hartley is the Council's Team Manager for Sustainable Tourism.  She said: "Although the projects could be funded from a pot of money aimed at tourism improvements, we know that it is just as important to ensure that developments benefit residents too, who of course are in a position to enjoy the improvements all year round, not just in the tourist season.

"We're really keen to hear from people who have some great ideas around changes that could be made to benefit the local area and its community."

Ideas should be emailed to ideas@orkney.gov.uk by Monday 13 March.
