Date: 30 May 2022

Time: 17:00

Jubilee flag parade

Orkney’s main thoroughfare turned red, white and blue as part of the HM the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations on Monday morning 30 May.

The Ship2Shore organised event saw around 180 children from Glaitness School march to Kirkwall harbour much to the delight of onlookers.

In recognition of the royal occasion, the Queen’s representative in Orkney, Lord-Lieutenant Elaine Grieve, placed the first of 70 Union Jack flags that will be flown along the pier and harbour area until Sunday evening.

Ship2Shore, Orkney’s meet and greet service for cruise liners visiting our shores, wanted to pay homage to the 70th anniversary of Her Majesty’s reign, Her Platinum Jubilee - a feat no previous monarch has achieved.

There are lots of Platinum Jubilee events taking place across Orkney this week – including a beacon lighting in Broad Street at 9.00pm this Thursday
