Stromness and South Isles councillors announced

The first results are in for the Orkney Islands Council elections.

The three seats for Stromness and South Isles ward have now been announced at the Pickaquoy Centre.

James Stockan, Graham Bevan and Lindsay Hall have been elected as councillors.

A total of 1,150  first priority votes were cast in the ward with James Stockan taking 353 of these votes, Graham Bevan taking 281 votes, Lindsay Hall taking 175.

Councillor James Stockan, who has served 19 years as a councillor, said: “I am delighted to have the confidence of the community after all this time serving them – I shall continue to strive to do my best.”

Six candidates had been vying for the seats.

The next results will be for the North Isles ward.
