Plan today so you can vote in May

Date: 09 February 2022

Council elections are taking place on the 5th May

The Electoral Registration Officer has written to households in Orkney, ahead of the Local Government Elections that will take place on 5 May 2022.

Anyone aged 16 or over that day, resident in Orkney and registered to vote, will be able to vote.  Letters have recently been sent to all properties, listing electors who are currently registered to vote and if they have a postal vote in place.

Anyone not included on that letter can register to vote between now and Monday 18 April at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote

Anyone registered to vote but not listed as a postal voter can apply to vote by post by visiting www.orkney-shetland-vjb.co.uk and downloading the application form, which must be returned by 5pm on Tuesday 19 April, or sooner.

Dennis Stevenson, Electoral Registration Officer for Orkney and Shetland, said “With the Local Government Elections coming up in May we have once again this year given electors early opportunity to plan ahead to vote. Please check the letter to ensure that you are included and make any registration or postal voting applications before these deadlines.”

“If you have any queries about your registration or postal voting please contact our office on 01856 876222 or email ero@orkney.gov.uk
