Road works and closures on New Scapa Road - impacts on buses and covid centres

New Scapa Road in Kirkwall will be closed between Manse Road and Scapa Court from Monday 7 February 2022 for around two weeks.

As a result of the closure, the section of Pipersquoy Road between New Scapa Road and Broadsands Road will also be closed to through traffic.

Signed diversions via Wellington Street/High Street, Old Scapa Road and Foreland Road will be in place. A diversion plan is available on the Council website.

All bus services will be able to follow the diversion, except the No 9 Town Service bus - it will be unable to serve Pipersquoy and Quoybanks and will travel via Holm Branch Road to re-join the route on Holm Road.

The works are being undertaken in two phases to ensure access to the Covid Assessment Centre and Vaccine Centre at the Old Balfour at all times.

Access to both car parks/centres will be provided internally via a ramped link through the corner of the Old Balfour car park nearest the old Maternity/Macmillan entrance. Each phase is expected to take one week. Phase 1, from Monday, will see access to both Centres via the old Maternity entrance.

These works were originally scheduled for last December, but were postponed by OIC to avoid disrupting the rollout of the COVID-19 boosters.
