State Aid

State aid is a European Commission (EC) term which refers to forms of public assistance , given to undertakings on a discretionary basis, which has the potential to distort competition and affect trade between Member States of the European Union.

In some instances an award of rates relief will count as de minimus aid for State aid purposes. There is currently a ceiling of 200,000 Euros (around £165,000 although exact amount will fluctuate) of de minimus aid that can be granted over a three year period.

More information can be downloaded from the Scottish Government in the the Related Sites section of this page.
