Easter Community Learning programme launched

Date: 18 April 2024

Do you know how to navigate your way through a map, identify an array of local birds and wildflowers, or how about learning to restore and upholster a piece of furniture?

Well, now’s your chance for the Council’s Community Learning, Development & Employability Service has pulled together a Spring 2024 Guide full of courses and classes for folk to enjoy, whether a beginner or as a refresher.

Some courses are free through ActiveLife memberships, others may be eligible for concessionary rates and fees can be paid in instalments to try and ensure as many folk as possible can benefit from taking part.

The Council’s Team Leader Adult Learning & Community Development, Walter Gorman, said: “The team have drawn together a range of indoor and outdoor classes and courses to suit a variety of interests. We know there are significant benefits associated with community learning, such as bringing folk together, increasing confidence and leading to improved physical and mental health.

“From Thai Chi to yoga, numeracy classes to an introduction to navigation, appreciating Orkney’s birds, wildflowers and habitat to furniture upholstery and restoration – there's a variety to choose from.
