Kirkwood bequest
The Kirkwood Bequest provides financial support for Stromness Academy pupils who go on to study approved agricultural or veterinary courses.
The fund was established through a bequest from Mrs Jeannie Kirkwood and is administered by Orkney Islands Council.
Who can apply?
Applicants must:
- Be a pupil at Stromness Academy when they apply
- Apply before leaving school
- Intend to study an approved full-time agricultural or veterinary course
What funding Is available?
Successful applicants may receive up to £1,000 per year for the duration of their approved course.
Funding:
- Is not means-tested
- Is paid in instalments during the academic year
- Depends on satisfactory attendance, conduct and progress
- Cannot be transferred to a different course or extended for additional years of study
Students may take one approved gap year during their studies, although no funding will be paid during that year.
How to apply
The application process has two stages:
Stage 1: Initial Application
- Complete Form G5a
- Have it endorsed by the Head Teacher of Stromness Academy
- Submit it before 5 March and before leaving school
Stage 2: Course Confirmation
- Complete Form G5b
- Submit proof of acceptance onto your approved course
- Submit by 5 October
Students must submit Form G5b and evidence of continued study each year to receive ongoing funding.
