Other student funding
Financial support is available for people studying further education, higher education, postgraduate courses, and nursing or midwifery qualifications in Scotland.
The funding available depends on your course level, whether you study full-time or part-time, and your personal circumstances.
Further education (FE)
Further education includes courses such as:
- National Qualifications
- SVQs
- National Certificates (NCs)
Support may include:
- Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA)
- Further Education Bursary
- Travel, study materials and maintenance support
- Childcare assistance
- Additional support for learning
- Discretionary funding
Funding for Orkney students is limited and awards may be made on a first come, first served basis.
Higher education (HE)
Higher education includes:
- HNCs and HNDs
- Undergraduate degrees
- PGDE courses
Most full-time higher education students apply to the Student Awards Agency Scotland (SAAS) for support, which may include:
- Tuition fees
- Student loans
- Bursaries and grants
- Support for care-experienced students
- Dependants' and childcare support
- Disabled Students' Allowance
Part-time students may also be eligible for tuition fee support and other funding.
Postgraduate study
Students undertaking eligible postgraduate courses may be able to access:
- Tuition fee loans
- Living cost loans (for eligible full-time students)
- Disabled Students' Allowance
- Childcare and discretionary funding
Nursing and midwifery
Students studying nursing or midwifery may be eligible for bursaries and living-cost support through SAAS, along with additional discretionary funding.
Other sources of funding
Additional financial support may be available through:
