The closing date for 16 jobs with the Council's Early Learning and Childcare team has been extended to early January - if you love seeing peedie people learn new things and are interested in child development, read on!

Now is an exciting time to consider a career in early learning and child care, with several positions now being advertised by Orkney Islands Council, at its settings across Mainland Orkney.

There are 16 posts with the team currently being advertised, ranging from full time to part time, temporary and permanent – with the team open to considering applications from those looking for part-time work/flexible hours.

Catherine Diamond (Service Manager for Early Learning and Childcare) says the Council is looking for enthusiastic people who want to be part of a professional team helping deliver flexible, high quality care that meets the needs of local children aged two to five years.

“It’s important to us that we get the right people for these positions.

“So if there is a full time post you are interested in but can’t commit to 35 hours a week, please do still apply.

“We’re looking to increase our staffing in readiness for the expected intakes of nursery children over the next two school terms – with one eye on the summer holidays too.

“We’d also invite people who see a post that interests them but maybe feel they are not qualified enough yet to get in touch with us, and we can steer you in the right direction for training and skills development. In some cases there will be an option to undertake a post as a trainee.

“And finally, if now is just not the right time, please remember there are always opportunities for you to join our team of relief staff.”

Of the 16 posts currently being advertised, two are for Early Years Practitioners at the Council’s Willow Tree Nursery in Kirkwall (one 35 hours per week and one 21 hours per week) - both on a 50 weeks per year basis.

Also open for applications are four full time term time posts at Glaitness Nursery, Papdale Nursery, St Andrews Nursery and Stromness Nursery.

All posts are subject to membership of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme.

The closing date for the current round of posts has been extended to midnight on 4 January.

If you would like to explore opportunities to join the team as a trainee early years practitioner please contact Catherine Diamond to discuss this, on 01856 873535 ext 3204 or by email.

Prospective applicants are invited to discuss any particular job that interests them by contacting the relevant managers – the details will be in the adverts on the myjobscotland website.
