Meet the Contractor Event for Quanterness Wind Farm
Date: 2 July 2026
Time: 09:00 AM

An event is being held later this month to bring local suppliers and contractors together with the main contractors for the Council’s Quanterness wind farm project.
The project – in development since 2019 – was unanimously backed by elected members in February last year and will see six 149.1m turbines built at the site in St. Ola, situated between Kirkwall and Finstown.
The 28.8MW wind farm will generate electricity which will be exported via the new interconnector. By exporting this electricity, the project will provide the Council with much needed income to protect and enhance existing services.
Nordex were announced as the turbine suppliers in August last year - Turbine Contracts Awarded for Quanterness Wind Farm - and an announcement on the appointed Principal Contractor for the project is expected soon.
The informal, drop-in session will provide an opportunity for the local supply chain to meet the main project contractors and learn more about upcoming supply and subcontracting opportunities arising from the development.
The contractors in attendance will include:
- Principal Designer - Mott MacDonald
- Turbine Supplier – Nordex
- Distribution Network Operator - SSEN Distribution & Freedom Group – SSEN Distribution’s Contract Partner
The event will take place in the King Street Halls, Kirkwall, on Wednesday 22 July between 2pm-6pm.
