Health and safety

Building work in Orkney must meet fire safety requirements, including safe escape routes, structural stability, access for fire equipment, and containment of smoke or fire. The local Fire Authority inspects non-domestic premises for compliance.

Construction work is also covered by the CDM Regulations, which set out how health and safety risks on site should be managed.
