Orkney Islands Council is calling on members of the local community and visitors to help shine the spotlight on OIC employees or teams who have made a difference.

Local people – including social care residents, school pupils, museum and library visitors, friends, family and employees – are all encouraged to nominate their VIPs for the new VIP Awards scheme.

VIP stands for ‘Values In Practice’ – with the awards aimed at recognising work which reflects and embodies our values: People, Unity, Trust, Ownership and Creativity.

Karen Greaves is the Council’s Corporate Director of Strategy, Performance and Business Solutions, the service area with responsibility for organisational development. She said: “Our new VIP Awards scheme is an opportunity to unite with our local community and say thank you to those who make a real difference. All of us at OIC are looking forward to reading your nominations, and celebrating our colleagues’ achievements.

“I have no doubt that each and every nomination we receive will be a testament to the hard work and dedication of our employees, who strive to put people at the heart of everything they do, whilst working together for a better Orkney.”

Nominations are now open for our three award categories:

  • Customer Focus
  • Working Together
  • Creativity

Nominations can be made online, by video or posted into one of the boxes at local venues.

Please note that nominees must currently be employed by Orkney Islands Council; they can work in any role, part-time or full time, within any team or service.

Finalists will be chosen by an employee selection panel from a wide variety of services and all different types of jobs. Finalists then get the opportunity to win at our annual award celebration to receive vouchers and a certificate. Nominations are open all year round, but for your nominee to be included in our next selection, please submit your nomination by 25 September. Any nominations received after this deadline will be kept and considered at the next panel.

Please visit www.orkney.gov.uk/VIPAwards for more information and to nominate.
