Date: 11 September 2026
Time: 02:00 PM

We are pleased to announce that Council Leader Heather Woodbridge will be starting a short period of maternity leave today. Heather and her husband Tim welcomed their first child yesterday evening. They are both very happy and everyone is doing well. They are very grateful to NHS Orkney and staff at the Balfour Hospital for such warm care.
Heather is the first female Council Leader in Scotland to have a baby while in Office. They are looking forward to visiting School Place together soon.
Deputy Leader Councillor Sandy Cowie will be covering the Leader's duties during this period. Councillor Cowie said, "I've worked with Heather for over six years. She'll be a wonderful parent and we're all very excited for her and Tim. She has a supportive group of colleagues in the chamber, and I look forward to working with them while I cover her duties.”
