Electric vehicle (EV) charging

We manage and maintain 31 public EV charging points across Mainland Orkney and the Linked Isles for use by residents and visitors. We set the tariffs and manage the energy supply. Day-to-day operations, maintenance and customer support are managed by ScottishPower through the SP Recharge network.

You can pay by contactless payment, the ScottishPower Recharge app, RFID card, or through compatible roaming providers such as All Star, Electroverse, Gireve, OVO Charge and Zap-Pay. Clear instructions are shown on each charge point.

Charges and stay limits

A pre-authorisation applies when paying: £45 by contactless, £25 via the app.

At the Kirkwall Travel Centre rapid charger, the maximum stay is one hour. Overstaying incurs a charge of £1 per minute.

At Burray School (Old) Car Park, the maximum stay is 4 hours. Overstaying between 8am and 6pm incurs a £6.20 penalty. No penalty applies between 6pm and 8am.
