Home education
In Scotland, every child has the right to an education. As a parent or carer, you can choose to educate your child at home rather than sending them to school. This is called home education.
People choose home education for many different reasons - some make a planned decision based on their values or philosophy, while others find it works better for their child's particular needs or circumstances.
We are committed to working with all parents in an open, consistent and fair way. Under Scottish law, we have a duty to ensure that education provided at home is suitable and efficient, and we will work with you to support that.

What if my child's school experience is the reason I'm considering home education?
If your decision is related to a concern or dissatisfaction with school, we would encourage you to speak to us first. Many issues can be resolved without removing your child from school. You can also use our formal complaints procedure if you feel that is appropriate.
