Monitoring and audits

We carry out regular monitoring and audits to support the Orkney Local Development Plan 2017 and inform the preparation of future plans.

Housing Land Audit

We're required to carry out an annual Housing Land Audit, monitoring land allocated for housing in the Orkney Local Development Plan 2017, to ensure there's an adequate supply of developable land. Any constraints affecting a site, for example those identified during a planning application, are noted in the audit.

The current audit, from 2024, is published in an interactive, online format.

Employment Land Audit

As part of monitoring the Orkney Local Development Plan 2017, we also carry out an Employment Land Audit, tracking development on land allocated for employment and business use.

This audit is from 2023, and the information is currently under review.

Delivery Programme

Our Delivery Programme supports the Orkney Local Development Plan 2017, setting out the actions and partnerships needed to implement the Plan's strategy.

The current Delivery Programme was approved in May 2025.

Town Centre Health Check

Our Town Centre Health Check assesses the vitality and viability of Kirkwall and Stromness town centres, helping inform future planning and development decisions.
