The Lieutenancy of Orkney

The Lord-Lieutenant is His Majesty The King’s representative in Orkney. The role is largely ceremonial and includes supporting Royal visits, presenting certain honours and awards, and taking part in civic and community activity across the county. 

The Lord-Lieutenant is supported by a Vice Lord-Lieutenant and Deputy Lieutenants. 

Orkney Islands Council and the Lieutenancy 

Orkney Islands Council provides administrative support to the Lieutenancy. This includes a Clerk, Depute Clerk and support staff who assist with the day to day running of the Lieutenancy, coordination of official engagements, and liaison with local organisations. 

The Lieutenancy operates independently and carries out its duties on behalf of the Crown.
