Primary care

Primary care is usually your first point of contact for any health issue. In an emergency, you may need to go straight to secondary care, where specialist clinicians are based.

Primary care covers four main areas: 

• General Practice
• Dental, Pharmacy
• Ophthalmology (opticians).
• Orkney has 10 GP practices, 4 dental surgeries, 4 community pharmacies, and 1 optician.
