Orkney Islands Regional Marine Plan - Supporting Guidance

The Orkney Islands Council Marine Planning team will prepare supporting guidance to accompany the Orkney Islands Regional Marine Plan published in February 2026. These guidance documents will be prepared to inform the implementation of relevant polices in the Orkney Islands Regional Marine Plan. These include:

Natural Capital and Ecosystem Services Guidance
Marine Enhancement and Restoration Guidance
Amenity, Wellbeing and Quality of Life Guidance
Finfish Farming Spatial Guidance
Shellfish Farming Spatial Guidance
Seaweed Cultivation Spatial Guidance

Our Marine Planning team is currently seeking advice from the Orkney Marine Planning Advisory Group on which guidance documents should be prioritised for preparation and the content of these guidance documents. Further updates on the preparation of the above guidance documents will be provided on this webpage in due course.

Significant progress has been made on the preparation of the Finfish Farming Spatial Guidance.
