Stromness Swimming Pool

Pool Details

The pool is 25 metres long and 9 metres wide. It is 0.9 metres deep in the shallow end for half its length, after which it drops to 2.4 metres in the deep end. The building underwent an extensive refurbishment in 2000, which included new Reception area and changing rooms, Steam Room, Sauna, Spa, and larger Fitness Room.

The times are Water, Health and Fitness Suite times - we allow an extra 20 minutes for showering and changing at the end of each session.

Health and Fitness Suites Induction

Before using the Fitness Suite you must have completed an induction course with us – over 16 years only (ask at reception for more details).

Children over 8 may use the Health Suite at the weekends accompanied by an adult at all times (2 children per adult).

Children's Fun Sessions

Suitable for age up to S2, swimmers and non-swimmers welcome. Please phone for details.

Learn to Swim Programme

Following the Scottish Swimming Learn to Swim Programme, we deliver six levels at Stromness Swimming Pool, Preschool, Swim Skills 1, Swim Skills 2, Swim Skills 3, Swim Skills 4 and Club Ready (Swimming) with three overarching national standards: Gold, Silver and Bronze.

The programme provides a fun, progressive and all-inclusive pathway for children to participate in an aquatic environment to whatever level they aspire to.  It has the core philosophy of being fun, child-centred and based on establishing the core aquatic skills which are fundamental to a child learning and developing more complex skills.
