Rent
Your rent notice tells you how much to pay and when. Council house rent is payable weekly for 48 weeks of the year. Homelessness accommodation rent is payable for 52 weeks. Garage rent is payable monthly.
Ways to pay
- Online via MyOrkney
- By telephone: 01856 873535, extension 2905 or 2115 (Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm)
- Bank standing order: monthly, fortnightly or weekly. Monthly payments are preferred. Contact us for details.
- Internet banking: Royal Bank of Scotland, sort code 83-24-07, account number 00233800, account name OIC Rent Collection. Quote your rent payment reference number.
- By cheque: payable to Orkney Islands Council, sent to Council Offices, Kirkwall, KW15 1NY. Write your rent reference on the back. Do not send cash by post.
- In person: Council Offices, Kirkwall, or Warehouse Buildings, Stromness
- Payroll deduction: available to council employees only
If you are struggling to pay
If you are having difficulty with your rent, contact us as soon as possible. We would always rather reach a repayment arrangement than take formal action.
If you fall behind by a week, we will send you a reminder. If payments continue to be missed, a Housing Officer will visit to discuss the situation. If rent remains unpaid, we may take legal action, which could ultimately lead to eviction.
