What do you use to treat roads in winter? Do you use salt, or grit, or both?

We predominantly use salt – this is used to melt ice /snow. Sometimes but usually only in severe conditions grit will be mixed with salt if snow is packed, as the grit gives additional grip on the surface, while the salt starts melting the packed snow.
