Road closure to allow routine survey work at the Cathedral

Date: 14 March 2024

Routine survey work is due to take place at the south-east end of St Magnus Cathedral on Sunday 17 March - weather permitting.

With a large crane on site and to enable the works to be carried out safely – Palace Road will be closed to traffic from around 6am until 6pm.

The high-level survey will take a closer look at the building from the East Window to the South Transept.

The Council’s Team Manager Heritage, Meredith Macbeth, will be present for the survey. She said: “This is a routine job required for the good maintenance of historic buildings and will feed our plan of works over the coming years. If required, we will undertake remedial repair work. We apologise for any inconvenience caused by the road closure.”

Pedestrian access will still be available on Palace Road and the Cathedral’s Sunday services will go ahead as planned.
