Staff from the Kirkwall Community Centre’s St Magnus Café say it’s a great place to work with regular and visiting customers who value the service on offer.

And the staff say: “It’s very lightsome; you get to meet a lot of folk, from regular customers to visitors up on holiday, which is really fine.

“There’s a variety of tasks involved, and we are kept busy, so the time just flies by. We are a friendly bunch and keen to get some more staff through the door to keep the service operating in full.”

There’s several permanent and relief kitchen assistant posts up for grabs within the centre which enjoys fantastic views of St Magnus Cathedral.

Duties include preparing and serving up hot and cold food and drink, washing dishes, setting up and clearing the meeting and function rooms within the building.

Scott Pring, Service Manager (Corporate Catering) said they are having to reduce the opening hours this month as a result of staff shortages.

“Unfortunately, due to a staff shortage, we have had to reduce the opening hours at the St Magnus Café from 10am-2pm from today, 12 June, until Wednesday 28 June. In addition, we will have to close in full on Monday 19 and Tuesday 20 June due to insufficient cover.

“If you enjoy variety, meeting new people, making new friends with regular customers and being part of a small and friendly team, then this could be the job for you.”
