Orkney Local Development Plan
The Council has a statutory duty to prepare a Local Development Plan to establish the Council’s policies and proposals for the use and development of land in Orkney over a five year period and beyond.
This review process has been formerly underway since April 2009.
The review has been undertaken in 4 stages, as noted below. Details of each stage (with the execption of Stage 4 which is expected in 2012) can be viewed by clicking on the relevant page from the blue menu to the left of this page.
Stage 1 - Development Plan Scheme
Stage 2 - Main Issues Report
Stage 3 - The Proposed Plan - CURRENT STAGE*
Stage 4 - Publication of the Orkney Local Development Plan (2012)
* Please click on 'Stage 3 - The Proposed Plan' under the blue menu to the left of this page for the latest information on the Proposed Plan.
When finally approved, the new plan will be known as the Orkney Local Development Plan, and will replace the current policies; the Orkney Structure Plan (2002) and the Local Plan (2004).
It is still expected that the new Orkney Local Development Plan will be ready for final approval by the Council in 2012. Until then, there will be a transition period during which the provisions of both the old and the new plans will influence decisions on planning applications.
