World Social Work Day to be Celebrated in Orkney
Date: 15 March 2018
Time: 04:05
An event highlighting the valuable work carried out by social workers takes place in Kirkwall next week.
The event is part of World Social Work Day on Tuesday March 20.
Taking place in the Pool Viewing Room at the Pickaquoy Centre, it's a market place style event where folk can come along to find out more about what it's like to work in social work from some of the staff currently doing the job.
Running from 10.00 to 15.00 there will be keynote speeches at 12.00 from Orkney's Chief Social Work Officer Scott Hunter and Shetland's Chief Social Work Officer Martha Nicolson.
There will also be posts on Orkney Islands Council's OIC Updates Facebook page throughout the day, exploring what a career in social work is like.
Orkney's Chief Social Work Officer, Scott Hunter, is keen to see local folk come along to find out more about the services provided. He said: "World Social Work day is the key day in the year that social workers worldwide stand together to celebrate the achievements of the profession and raise awareness in communities and workplaces of the contribution that social workers make.
"This should be an interesting event, particularly for anyone who might be keen to join the profession, and so we look forward to seeing lots of folk there."
