Waste Service Update

Householders will be unable to deposit rubbish bags at the civic amenity sites this weekend (16/17 May).

This is due to a breakdown of a baler at Chinglebraes

When all the black bags that have been collected at the sites or at the kerbside are taken to Chinglebraes they're usually compacted down by a baler for storage before shipment. That means that whilst the Council have been able to gather the bags at Chinglebraes as usual, they can't be compacted down, leading to issues with volumes for storage and transportation.

There's two things that householders can do to help in the meantime:

Keep hold of your black bags until next week - either for if you've got a kerbside collection or for when we start accepting black bags at the sites again on Tuesday.

If you can, try to reduce your amounts of black bag waste. For example is there more you could be recycling or could you cut down on waste in other ways?

Please note the sites will be open as normal and accept all other advertised materials such as glass, paper, cardboard and garden waste. It is just rubbish bags we can't take at the moment.

We'll start accepting rubbish again on Tuesday but we'd ask folk not to take large loads to the sites.

We're really thankful to folk for their patience and for complying with the restrictions last weekend whilst these repairs are carried out.
