Manse Road Play Park 2

Manse Road Play Park is due to re-open today, Wednesday 15 July, after being closed at the end of last year for an extensive development to become Orkney’s first fully inclusive play park.

Redevelopment works began in December, including excavation and removal of old equipment in preparation along with the creation of a parking area. This was followed by groundworks and installation of new play structures by R S Clouston and ScotPlay, respectively.

The new play park represents a significant investment in inclusive play provision, ensuring that every child can enjoy stimulating and accessible play opportunities within their community.

Elaine Harcus, Orkney Islands Council’s Team Manager for Sports and Leisure, said:

“We’re really excited that the reopening of Manse Road Play Park is just around the corner. This project marks a major step forward in providing inclusive play opportunities in Orkney, and it’s fantastic to see the vision coming to life.

“We’re excited to welcome families back to enjoy a space designed so that every child can play, explore and feel included.”

The project has been shaped through close collaboration with Inclusive Orkney, whose input has been vital in ensuring the design meets the needs of children and families across Orkney.

The redeveloped Manse Road Play Park will stand as a flagship facility for inclusive play in Orkney, where all children can play, enjoy and grow together.

This work has been funded by the Scottish Government’s Play Park Renewal Fund and the Council’s Play Area Renewal Fund.
