Opening doors to employment across Orkney

Films showcasing the work of Orkney's Local Employability Partnership are being released this week to raise awareness of the support available to help people into work and training.
The Local Employability Partnership brings together organisations across Orkney to provide coordinated employment support. This includes guidance, training programmes, accredited qualifications, and connections to local employers to help people overcome barriers to employment, develop skills, and access opportunities.
During 2024-25, the partnership supported 121 individuals through tailored one-to-one and group work programmes. Of those who progressed from the service, 74% moved into positive destinations including employment, further education, or sustained volunteering.
Kerry Spence, Chair of Orkney's Local Employability Partnership, said: "Everyone's employment journey is different, which is why the partnership provides flexible support tailored to individual circumstances.
“These films show real people taking their next steps - whether that's gaining new skills, building confidence, or moving into work. They demonstrate what's possible when people get the right support at the right time, and we hope they inspire others to reach out for the help that's available."
Asparuh, one of the people featured in the films, said: "With the support of the Local Employability Partnership, I studied at the college and worked towards my dream of becoming a baker. I had the dreams but didn't know where to start - the support I received has changed my life completely."
The films will be shared on Orkney Islands Council's social media channels over the next week. Find out more about the partnership and what support is available at www.olep.org.
