New secure payment system launching soon
Date: 30 October 2025
Time: 08:00 AM
Starting soon, you'll no longer need to read out your card details over the phone when making payments to Orkney Islands Council.
The Council is introducing Call Secure, a new system that lets people pay securely without sharing sensitive information verbally. This upgrade helps protect personal data and ensures compliance with the latest payment security standards.
How it works:
When you phone to make a payment, Customer Service Advisers will take the details of what you'd like to pay and then transfer you to Call Secure – an automated system that will guide you through entering your card number, expiry date and 3-digit security code using your phone keypad. This means you'll no longer need to read your card details out loud, helping to keep your personal information safe and secure.
If you experience any issues during the payment process, please don't hesitate to call back on 01856 873535.
Other payment methods
If you prefer not to use Call Secure, you can still pay using other methods:
- Online Payment – www.orkney.gov.uk/payit
- Direct Debit – Council Tax and Non-Domestic Rates
- Standing Order – Rent, Garage Rent, Invoices (including Telecare)
- In Person – pay by cash, cheque or card at Council Offices, School Place, Kirkwall or Warehouse Buildings, Victoria Street, Stromness
- By Post – send a cheque to: Customer Services, Orkney Islands Council, School Place, Kirkwall, KW15 1NY
The Council accepts all major credit and debit cards, except American Express.
