New bus and cycle shelters installed across Orkney

Date: 1 April 2026

Time: 04:00 PM

Work to install new and replacement cycle and bus shelters across Orkney is scheduled to be completed this week.
Earlier this year, external funding was secured to install nine bus shelters and five cycle shelters across Orkney. The fully funded project also included an allocation to upgrade bus timetable displays across the county and to upgrade real time information points at Kirkwall Travel Centre.
Following a competitive tender exercise, Trueform was awarded the contract to supply the shelters and displays. Orkney Builders (Contractors) Ltd was appointed to carry out the installation works.  A huge thanks to the Contractor for meeting the tight deadline to carry out the works during this financial year and for delivering such a high-quality finish.
There has already been recognition of how beneficial the new shelters will be by Community Councils such as Birsay.
Laura Cromarty, Service Manager (Transportation), said:
"As bus passenger figures continue to grow year on year, delivering new shelters and upgrading displays is an important step in improving how people move around Orkney.
“The shelters and infrastructure improvements help to make public transport more reliable, more comfortable, and more appealing for everyday journeys, and will encourage active travel across Orkney."
