Most popular baby names revealed

The most popular names for Orkney’s newborn babies in 2025 have been shared by the Council’s Registrar Service.

In total, 150 babies – 74 boys and 76 girls – were registered with the service between 1 January – 24 December 2024. This compares to 146 in 2024.

Finlay or Finley was the most popular name for a peedie boy with three being registered in the past year, followed by two each for Alfie, Archie, Ben, Fredde, George, Magnus and Vinnie

The name favoured by parents for girls was Hailey or Freya/Freyja each registered three times. This was followed by a host of names – Ava, Eilidh, Evie, Maisie, Sigrid, Ella, Lyra and Sophie - with two babies each being given these names.
