Date: 12 June 2025
Time: 01:00
The Orkney public is warmly invited to help celebrate twenty years since the opening of Smiddybrae House care home in Dounby, at a special event on Saturday 14 June.
The day will kick off at 12 midday, with a welcoming address by Orkney’s Lord Lieutenant Elaine Grieve following which residents will help Elaine cut the birthday cake and unveil a special plaque.
Rev Kerr Wintersgill will then propose a toast to all who are part of the Smiddybrae family, past and present.
This will mark the start of festivities, including a bouncy castle and a range of stalls including a dunk tank, nail in the bale, sweetie stall and lots more. Skaill Falconry will also be making an appearance at around 3pm.
There’ll be a host of live musical entertainment throughout the day, and sausage and mince rolls and refreshments to help keep festivities going.
Joanna Nicholson, Registered Manager at Smiddybrae said: “Smiddybrae has provided resident centred, family focused care for local people for twenty years. It is a much loved part of the community and continues to go from strength to strength providing intergenerational fun with toddler tractor runs, visits by Young Farmers, singing and dancing performances and much more – alongside day to day activities to engage our residents and nurture their wellbeing.”
Chair of Orkney Health and Care’s Integration Joint Board, Rachael King, said: “The support our Smiddybrae team receives from the local community in providing opportunities for community engagement is to be celebrated - and is a credit to the hard work of staff, everyone in the Smiddybrae family and the wider community.
“We hope folk will come along and help us all celebrate this milestone.”
