Festive Lighting Anchor Bolt Testing - Temporary Road Closures

Orkney Islands Council will be carrying out annual testing of festive lighting anchor bolts around Kirkwall, Stromness and St Margaret's Hope from Monday 29th September to Wednesday 1st October 2025.

Short-duration road closures will be in place as work progresses along the affected streets. The closures will move along each route as testing is completed.

Schedule of Works:

Monday 29th September: Starting at 8am at the top of Bridge Street, Kirkwall, progressing towards Albert Street. Road closures will move as work advances along Victoria Street and Main Street. Time permitting, some anchor bolts on Broad Street may also be tested during the day.

Tuesday 30th September: Starting at 8am on Broad Street, Kirkwall, to complete any anchor bolts not tested on Monday. The team will then move to St Margaret's Hope to test anchor bolts around Cromarty Square.

Wednesday 1st October: Starting at 8am at Pier Head, Stromness, progressing along Victoria Street and onto Dundas Street. The day will conclude with checks on the anchor points at poles in front of the Stromness Hotel.

These annual safety inspections are essential to ensure the festive lighting installations are secure and safe for the upcoming season.
