Dust off your musical instruments this Pass It On week

Date: 6 March 2018

Time: 03:00

Local people are being urged to hand on under-loved musical instruments for the benefit of young musicians in the county, as part of national Pass It On Week.

Orkney Islands Council’s Instrumental Music Service will have collection points at local schools between 12 and 16 March.

Lynn Procter, Principal Teacher Expressive Arts, said: “It goes without saying Orkney has a thriving music scene, and there’s a huge interest among pupils to try out a range of instruments.

"We hope therefore that the Orkney public will get behind this musical amnesty and hand in instruments and accessories that are maybe not getting the attention and use they deserve, so we can improve and increase the experiences offered to pupils.”

Instruments of all types and sizes would be welcome, as well as accessories such as spare strings, music stands and sheet music.

Anyone wanting to donate items can do so at any school in Orkney.
