Council tenants invited to pop-up events in December

Date: 20 November 2025

Time: 10:00 AM

Council house tenants across Orkney are being invited to drop-in events this December to learn more about tenant participation and how they can help shape housing services.

The pop-up sessions will give tenants a chance to meet Tenant Participation Officer Claire Pritchard and find out about the different ways they can get involved – from joining residents' groups and panels, to reading the housing newsletter, taking part in consultations and completing surveys.

Tenant participation is all about giving tenants a voice in decisions that affect their homes and communities. It can be as simple as filling in a survey or as involved as joining a residents' panel to influence policy changes and service improvements.

Councillor Gwenda Shearer, Chair of the Education, Leisure and Housing Committee said: "These events are a chance for tenants to come along and have a chat about what matters to them. Whether you want to get involved in your local community, share feedback about housing services, or just learn more about what tenant participation means, we'd love to see you there.

"There are lots of different ways to take part – some people like attending meetings, others prefer to give feedback from home through our Armchair Panel. We want to make sure there's something that works for everyone."

The drop-in events will be held at:

  • Kirkwall Community Centre, Room 3, on Tuesday 2 December from 12pm to 2pm
  • Warehouse Buildings, Stromness (Archie Bevan room), on Wednesday 3 December from 1pm to 3pm

No booking is required, but tenants can contact Claire beforehand on 01856 873535 or at claire.pritchard@orkney.gov.uk (working hours: Tuesday and Wednesday, 8.30am–5pm, excluding public holidays).

More information about tenant participation is available at www.orkney.gov.uk/tenantparticipation.
