Orkney Islands Council is marking the retirement of Senior Caretaker Norman Rendall after 20 years of dedicated service at School Place.
Since joining the Council in 2006, Norman has played an essential role in the day-to-day operation of School Place. Known for his reliability, practical knowledge and willingness to help colleagues, he has become a familiar and highly valued member of the team.
Working largely behind the scenes, Norman has helped ensure School Place continued to run smoothly, responding to maintenance issues, supporting building operations and providing assistance wherever it was needed. His experience, professionalism and commitment have earned him the respect and appreciation of colleagues across the organisation.
Friend and manager, Fiona Ratter, said:
"Norman's the kind of person you don't fully appreciate until you imagine the place without him. He goes about his work in an unassuming way, never seeking recognition but always making a difference. He's given so many years of helping staff with countless day-to-day issues across the building. Much of the hard work Norman did happened behind the scenes, but his contributions has been seen and appreciated by everyone.”
Council Convener Graham Bevan stated:
"I want to add my own thanks to Norman for over two decades of dependable service to Orkney Islands Council. He has witnessed significant change across the organisation over the years, yet has remained a constant, reliable presence for staff and visitors at School Place throughout. His contribution leaves a lasting legacy, and his absence will be keenly felt by all who worked alongside him. I wish Norman a long and well-deserved retirement."
Everyone at Orkney Islands Council would like to thank Norman for his years of service and wishes him a long, happy and well-deserved retirement.
