Date: 10 March 2026
Time: 04:00 PM

There were smiles all round as a group of children and young people tried a variety of sports during Orkney’s 5th Parasport Festival last week.
The event offers children with physical disability, vision impairment, hearing loss or Down Syndrome the chance to try out rugby, athletics, climbing, archery, and boccia.
Community Sports Officer, John Cairns, said “There was a huge amount of enthusiasm from all our attendees, a total of 15 children of all ages attended, and the day appeared to be a resounding success judging by all of the smiles throughout the day”
John added, “I’d like to thank everyone who helped plan the day, our volunteers and the coaches from local clubs who generously gave their time to run sessions, and the schools and parents who signed up and supported the event. Their combined efforts made the day a real success.”
The sessions were supported by Scottish Disability Sport, the Council’s Sport and Leisure team, the Outdoor Education team, The Pickaquoy Centre, Inclusive Orkney, Orkney’s local sports clubs, and Sports Leaders from Stromness Academy.
