Universal Referral Pathway for Residential Rehabilitation Treatment for Alcohol and Drugs (Orkney)

  1. Assessment by an identified Key Worker within ODAT indicates rehabilitation may be appropriate.

  2. Specialist assessment of substance use problems, including assessment as to the presence and level of dependence; identification of other medical, social and mental health problems; complications, risk assessment and the needs of dependent children. Includes toxicology testing.

  3. Assessment to establish that clients meets admission criteria (see appendix 1). Funding may be subject to agreement by NHS Orkney / Orkney ADP / Orkney Islands Council or centrally funded.

Care / Recovery Plan formulated and agreed with patient / client (and carer / significant other where appropriate) and relevant members of multi-disciplinary team, with identified needs and targets for outcomes. Discussion of options for placement and plans for detoxification, preparation for rehabilitation, and after care planning considered.

  5. Application and acceptance at an appropriate rehabilitation programme – preparatory and introduction where possible.

      • Inpatient or community stabilisation and detoxification in inpatients

    • Does not require stabilisation and detoxification
